3 Reasons to Invest in a New Desktop For Your College Student

Receiving a college education is a fantastic opportunity and can be the opener of many doors for your not so little one. However, it is also an achievement that’s becoming more and more challenging; with online learning, rising living costs and forever updating applications, it isn’t only the piles of papers and deadlines students have to worry about. While help is increasingly available and some expenses can be cut down on, having solid, good quality equipment shouldn’t be one of them. So, if you’re encouraging them to desperately cling on to their hand-me-down computer, here’s a few reasons why that upgrade really will benefit them (and you)!

1. It Will Help Improve the Standard of Their Work

Investing in a modern computer can have a real boost on the class of work being handed to a professor. With advancements being made in technology and applications all the time, older machines are unlikely to have the setup required to access and enhance these developments. Newer computers  will be all-set up and able to download the newest applications and upgrades, allowing your student to take full advantage of the newer software. Newer desktops will also have the latest versions of writing and publishing applications that older machines may not be able to program, meaning their work will also look better. Newer versions have advanced features that give a more professional and academic appearance to writing, even if the content may need some work.

2. It Will Help Get Their Work Done Quicker

With older equipment, you’ll find it takes a lot more time to get anything done. Even logging on and getting set up can take an age! Newer desktop computers have a faster working time, meaning it’ll take less time to get work done. Without having to constantly wait for pages to load and your desktop to catch up, work will be finished much quicker meaning no mad panic or breakdown just before a deadline. And wouldn’t that be nice. There are a variety of college students desktopsto choose from too – don’t think you have to spend a lot to get a good model.

3. It Will Help Their Job Hunt Once Studying Is Over

With everything shifting now to being online, there’s an even larger market for new applications and electronic working. Meetings once had in a boardroom are being had on Zoom, work that once needed to be completed by hand is now all done through an online system. As the world continues to move more and more online, it’s important that the newer generation learn all they can before they enter the working world. Unfortunately a fresh-faced postgraduate with no knowledge of all the new computer systems will be unlikely to get the job next to the graduate with years of it!

So, give your brain-box the helping hand they need and invest in that new computer, give them one less thing to worry about and take just a little bit of the load off them. And who knows, it might just save you a headache or two.

3 Tips for Stay-at-Home Moms

Stay-at-home moms are the hardest working women in the world. Taking care of kids is a full-time job in itself, not to mention the housework, errands, and other assorted tasks that come along with being responsible for a household. If you find being a full-time stay-at-home mom to be exhausting or overwhelming, you aren’t alone; more than half of stay-at-home parents report feeling burnt out at higher rates than those who work full-time jobs outside the house. If you fall into this category, don’t fear! Here are a few tips to help you succeed.

1. Learn to Rely on a To-Do List

Instead of trying to remember everything that you have on your plate, write it down. This will not only make the prospect of everything you have to do seem less daunting but will help ensure that you don’t forget anything important and can help you prioritize certain tasks and create an efficient schedule accordingly. To help you out even further, get into the habit of making your to-do list for the following day before bed each night. This will help o clear your mind and alleviate stress before bed and will get the following day started right when you know exactly what you need to do starting the moment you wake up.

2. Get Out of the House

Getting out of the house and enjoying a change of scenery as often as possible can help to break up the monotony of everyday life and keep you from feeling bored or restless. Try to get out of the house for at least an hour each day, and try to spend at least a small amount of time doing something enjoyable just for you; this can be as small as driving to Starbucks to grab a coffee or going to Target to browse the skincare aisle in between other household errands or after taking the kids to school.

3. Ask for Help When You Need It

As a stay-at-home mom, you are your own boss. This can be good, as it allows you to work on your own terms and make your own schedule for each day; however, this also means that you might struggle with knowing who to go to should you need help. Those who work in traditional offices can reach out to their boss when they are struggling in their personal or professional lives, or attend training programs from companies like hsi.com when things need to be improved in the workplace. When you are a stay-at-home parent, you do not have an immediate guaranteed support system like that outside of your immediate family. When you are struggling, do not hesitate to reach out to your friends or a professional. Many stay at home moms find that seeing a therapist once a week is a great way to work through stress, and can be an excuse to get out of the house and take time for yourself every week.

Healthcare Professionals To Visit For Optimal Wellness

The current health crisis has encouraged many people to take a positive approach towards improving their well-being. The fact that you could contract a virus that causes significant long-term health problems and even death was alarming. Although getting vaccinated would help reduce the risks, it’s not a foolproof solution. Ultimately, individuals without existing health issues and strong immune systems had fewer risks of contracting the virus and suffering from ongoing complications.

Steps Towards Change

Anxious to reclaim their lives, people prioritized their health by incorporating better habits into their daily routines. They got active and exercised, replaced unhealthy food choices with more nutrient-rich options, and indulged in healthy self-care practices to enhance their well-being. Although these moves are a step in the right direction, a key component missing from most people’s health and wellness journeys was healthcare services and appointments.

Healthcare Services Overlooked

Making healthy lifestyle changes is necessary, but it’s not all a person must do to achieve optimal health and wellness. Ultimately, knowing your medical history, status, and potential risks is essential to developing a personalized approach to enhanced living. That’s why having a good relationship with healthcare professionals is a must.

Primary Care Physicians

At the forefront of your health and wellness is a primary care physician. They are medical experts specializing in preventing, diagnosing, and treating various health issues ranging from the common cold to diabetes. Patients should regularly visit their primary care physician for annual checkups, blood work, and screenings. Individuals with existing medical conditions or illnesses should visit for diagnosis, treatment, medications, surgeries, and referrals.

A primary care physician can help you learn about familial medical history, potential health risks, and existing issues. They can suggest lifestyle changes, prescribe medications, or recommend therapies, surgeries, and other treatments for improved wellness.

General Dentists

Oral health and hygiene are often overlooked but significantly impact your well-being. When you don’t take proper care of your teeth and gums, it can lead to everything from cavities and tooth loss to diabetes and heart disease. While brushing your teeth and flossing are part of the equation, visiting a general dentist is equally important.

Like a primary care physician, a general dentist is educated and trained to prevent, diagnose, and treat dental issues ranging from sensitive gums to tooth loss. While each dental practice varies, a general dentist provides cleanings, X-rays, fillings, root canals, crowns, bridges, and veneers. If more significant problems are discovered, general dentists offer referrals to specialists for extensive treatment and care.

Eye Doctors

Vision is a gift that most people neglect until they have a problem. However, compromised vision makes completing everyday tasks, accomplishing goals, and living life challenging. That’s why you must visit the eye doctor or optometrist. An optometrist is a medical expert that provides primary care for vision. They provide screenings, vision tests, diagnose significant issues, and write prescriptions for medications, contact lenses, and glasses. They’re also trained to perform general procedures for improved eye health.

Therapists

How you manage your emotions, traumatic experiences, and navigate everyday challenges, plays a significant role in your quality of life. Your mental state can alter how you think, function, and experience. While having moments of anger, sadness, fear, anxiety, stress, and even depression are common; when it persists for weeks, months, or years, it can have adverse consequences. Some people turn to addictions and then try to learn how to detox from dr

Therapists are mental health experts who help patients develop cognitive, emotional, and coping skills that help them navigate everyday life and overcome traumatic experiences. They can also diagnose and treat mental illness.

Rehab Centers

While you don’t need to see these health and wellness experts regularly, many people overlook the importance of turning to rehab facilities when they’re in need. If you’ve developed a dependency or addiction to certain substances or activities, you shouldn’t hesitate to get assistance.

Trying to research how to detox from drugs at home or other self-help topics may not be enough to get you through your struggles. Rehab professionals have the necessary experience to help you detox from substances and learn healthier coping mechanisms that lead to a better quality of life.

Although it may have taken a years-long battle with a virus to get people to realize the importance of prioritizing their health, it’s a step in the right direction. As you start incorporating healthy lifestyle practices in your life, don’t forget to include regular visits (in-person or online) to the essential healthcare professionals listed above for optimal results.

The Best Food Options to Make Your Super Bowl Party a Touchdown

The Best Food Options to Make Your Superbowl Party a Touchdown

Work: we all do it. Maybe you do construction work for ten hours a day, or perhaps you’re a physician that performs minimally invasive surgeries like the kind found at thebunioncure.com. You might even be a stay-at-home parent that works tirelessly to keep your house clean, the family fed, and your sanity intact. That is all well and good, but you can throw it all out the window come Superbowl Sunday.

We wait each year to get together with friends and family as our favorite NFL teams compete to win it all. But it’s not just about the game, it’s also about the amazing food! An abysmal selection of snacks to munch on throughout the game can really kill the vibe of the party, but having great food to stuff our faces with for a few hours can elevate a small gathering into an event. Here are some of the best food options for your Superbowl party that are sure to have guests lining up at your door.

Smoked Wings

Wings on game day? Count us in! You can make these yourself or order them with a variety of different options. You can get boned or boneless, dry rub or doused in sauce, toppings, and dipping sauces on the side. There’s just something about leaving a pile of saucy bones on your plate that really brings out your primal nature on game day.

Piping Hot Pizza

Do you think people will actually show up if you don’t even have pizza? There is an endless number of different pizza joint options to order from, but the real challenge is choosing your toppings: pepperoni, sausage, beef, ham, mushrooms, pineapple, olives, onions; the list goes on and on. It’s best to play it safe and order several large pizzas with a variety of toppings—if you’re lucky you may even get a slice yourself before they’re all gone.

Hero Subs

There’s something about a sub on game day that puts a smile on our faces and fills our bellies. You can opt to make a bunch of your own, or go out and purchase some from your favorite sub shop. Some establishments even have specials around the Superbowl where they offer giant subs that can be several yards long! That should be plenty enough to share.

Chips and Dips

No Superbowl would be complete without chips and dips; they’re a sporting event staple at this point. This is also easy, as you just need to go to your local store and pick up a handful of different flavors, like tortilla chips, barbecue, sour cream and onion, cheddar cheese, and, of course, classic. For dips, you can whip up a spinach artichoke dip, buffalo dip, blue cheese dip, sour cream, queso, and pretty much anything else you can think of! Just don’t forget to grab a bag of Doritos to go with it all.

Finger Food

There are no better food options for a party than finger food. It allows guests to try a little bit of everything on the table! Plus, there is a large selection of different foods to choose from: little smokies, meatballs, an assortment of cheese and crackers with slices of meat, and loads more. It’s probably a good idea to include some fruits and veggies for those healthy people, too—just so long as there’s ranch around for everyone else.

Something to Wash it All Down

You don’t expect your guests to drink tap water on game day, do you? It’s appropriate to have your fridge stocked with an assortment of drink options to accommodate everyone’s personal preferences. Drinks like punch, soda, tea, lemonade, are popular and easy to get in large quantities. Oh, and there are bound to be some beer drinkers, so kindly have a bottle opener at the ready.

Game Time!

You can’t go wrong with preparing any of these delicious dishes come Superbowl Sunday. Regardless of whichever ones you decide to make, they’ll all leave your guests happy, full, and rooting for their favorite team with a wing in their hand.

The Universal Studios Guide: Plus Size at the Parks

I wrote a First Timers Guide to Universal Studios where I shared a few tips on visiting the parks, but I wanted to share a bit more information with my readers who have asked a lot of questions about being plus size at the parks; if you’ve ever been nervous about visiting Universal because of your size, I’m here to answer questions, and put your mind at ease.

What to Wear.

The first thing I want to address is attire. Besides wearing thin clothing to help fit on rides (we will address this more down below), you want – no need – to be comfortable. Number 1 its hot. If you are not used to Florida weather, you don’t realize how hot and humid it can be. Dress for the weather.  Personally I have pretty big calves and knees, so I don’t like to wear shorts. My favorite thing to wear when its hot is cotton capris. My favorites are Spalding Women’s Capri’s – and they aren’t even expensive! Under $20 for plus sizes! They are breathable, and comfortable. The band doesn’t roll over, and if you decide to go for the yoga pants vs capri, they have pockets!

Secondly, as a woman – I highly recommend breathable under garments. Sports bras can also be great if you are well endowed, because it can help with fitting on rides that are a close fit.

For a top I say go with what you are comfortable with: If you are comfortable with a tank top that would be my suggestion because of the heat, tee shirts, tanks, sleeveless tops, whatever works for you (just don’t forget your sunscreen!)

Last but not least when it comes to what you wear – shoes. This one is super important. Even if you are relatively active, you walk a lot, like a LOT when you are in the parks. And you stand a lot. You want to make sure that you have comfortable shoes – preferably more than one pair if you’ll be in the parks more than one day. Now personally I prefer Sketcher Go Walk’s. They are comfortable, padded, and they come in wide width. I wear their slip ons, sneakers and flip flops. Even with the best shoes, you still will have achy feet, and maybe some blisters. Be sure that you soak them every night, and have these moleskins handy!

Possible Ride Complications.

So the biggest issue at the parks is – will I fit? No one wants to do the embarrassing walk of shame when you are told that you don’t fit, and you have to exit the ride.. right in front of everyone else that fits, and everyone else that is in the queue. So being plus size at the parks, what rides are the biggest concerns?

Revenge of the Mummy – Universal Studios
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts – Universal Studios
Hollywood Rip Ride Rock It – Universal Studios
Jurassic World VelociCoaster – Univeral’s Island of Adventure
The Simpsons Ride – Universal Studios
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure – Universal’s Island of Adventure
The Incredible Hulk Coaster – Universal’s Island of Adventure
Doctor Dooms’ Fearfall – Universal’s Island of Adventure
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey – Universal’s Island of Adventure

So with that being said, I want to preface that most of the other rides are not a problem for plus size people up to a 3x/4x or so. If you are plus size past size 3x, there could be other rides that may be a problem.

Now with the rides I mentioned above, there isn’t a specific way to know for sure you are going to fit; Unfortunately height and weight aren’t the only factors in if you’ll be able to ride or not. I know of people ‘smaller’ than me that couldn’t ride, and people ‘bigger’ than me that could. I highly recommend joining the Universal Orlando Plus Size Riders  Group on Facebook. It may help give you some insight on what rides you’ll more likely be able to ride, and what ones may give you problems. You may find someone else who is close to the same height/weight/measurements and ‘squish’. It definitely made me feel better about riding.

So here’s my personal experience: I am 5’6, in mid 250’s, and I wear anything between an 18-20 or a 1-3x top (depending on brand). I have been to the park when I was closer to 220, and I didn’t have a problem riding anything. Since I have gained weight, I was a little more concerned and didn’t try certain rides.  For example, I could ride Incredible Hulk, but I asked for the extended seating; all that is , is a longer seat belt. I am not very squishy; my fat is hard lol. So though I fit in the seat, its hard to pull over the restraint and buckle it without the extender. The staff was nice, and always put my party in the same row and just told me which seat had the extender. Easy peasy.

Forbidden Journey always made me nervous bc it would depend; I have large arms, so that made it a little difficult to pull down. If you pull down on the restraint as you sit down and pull it hard with you, most likely you’ll get the 2 clicks needed to ride. Sometimes they will help you push it down – sometimes they won’t. Don’t go after lunch lol. I road several times, sometimes I was able to do it myself, sometimes I wasn’t. Depending on who you talk to, it can be an issue.

Revenge of the Mummy was a little tight, but if you ride in the back, it seems to be easier to fit. same with Escape from Gringotts.

Even when I was smaller, I did NOT try Rip it, or Doctor Doom because I have heard of people even small plus size people, not being able to ride and I have an awful fear of being embarrassed, and unfortunately would rather miss out than do the walk of shame.
Now there are test seats for a lot of these rides – but that doesn’t mean for sure that you’ll be good. I have heard of people fitting in the test seats, but being turned away on the ride itself. I really wish that Universal would put the test seats in a private area, maybe behind a wall, or even be creative like a ‘virtual ride’ box, or something – but that is neither here nor there I guess.

Again, like I said – definitely join the Facebook group, it will give you better insight on people that may be your same size/shape, and give you a better idea on what to try!
